McIntosh has announced the MX124, a 13.4-channel home theater processor aimed at reference-grade installations. It supports speaker layouts up to 7.4.6 or 9.4.4, handles Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, Sony 360 Reality Audio, and MPEG-H, and doubles the subwoofer outputs of its predecessor to four independent channels.
The detail that stands out for tuning-minded buyers is the calibration package: the MX124 ships with licenses for Dirac Live Room Correction, Dirac Live Bass Control, and Audyssey MultEQ XT32 — letting owners and installers pick whichever system suits the room rather than being locked to one.
Four independent subwoofer outputs are the practical companion to that flexibility. With separate outputs, a bass-management system like Dirac Live Bass Control can adjust the level, delay, and EQ of each sub individually, which is how multi-sub setups smooth out seat-to-seat bass variation instead of just making one chair sound good.
Why it matters for tuning: having three correction systems on one box is a rare chance to compare them in the same room — but the comparison only means something if you measure. Run your own before-and-after sweep with each system engaged and look at what actually changed below 300 Hz; the "best" correction is the one whose measured result matches your target curve, not the one with the most familiar name.
The MX124 will be available through authorized McIntosh dealers; pricing had not been published at announcement time. Video-side specs include seven HDMI inputs and three outputs with 8K/60 and 4K/120 support.
